COACH MATT - BIO
- RIS Grade 3 Homeroom teacher
- RIS Aquatics Coordinator
- Over 15 years learn-to-swim/swim instructor experience
Growing up in Brisbane, Australia, I began swimming at a local school club when I was 5 years old. I quickly fell in love with the water, and improved my stroke and speed each time I swam. When I was 9 years old, I began swimming with coach Vince Raleigh at Brothers Swim Club, and was a member of both Brothers and the St. Joseph's Nudgee College Swim Team until I was 17 years old. I competed in both Queensland and National championships from the age of 9 to 18 years old. However, I stopped swimming competitively after finishing high school, and began coaching learn-to-swim classes, stroke correction classes and junior swimmers while attending university and after graduating.
After moving to RIS in 2007, I taught Tadpoles for several years before moving to the Astra Pool (Big Pool) to teach the Junior Development squad. In 2014, I became the Aquatics Coordinator for the RIS Phoenix Swim Team. I have Level 1 Swim Instructor Qualifications, First Aid and CPR certifications and absolutely love teaching students the sport of swimming.
My goal is to not only teach swimmers how to improve their stroke, but also how to enjoy and respect the water. Swimming is a life skill that all children must learn to master...and their is no better time to learn than now.
